Modern range of spectacle lenses:

Both varifocal and bifocal lenses are now available in light weight impact resistant plastic called Trilogy. This material can have an antireflection coating added for night driving. These coatings are now much easier to keep clean e.g. Crizal Scotchguard. Polarised lenses are especially useful for driving when the sun is low in the sky, available in brown and grey. Thinner lenses are available to reduce the thickness of all lenses, the choice in these lenses has recently been greatly enhanced, we’re happy to help.
Contact Lenses:
I fit both soft and gas permeable contact lenses to most prescriptions.
Well fitted and good quality modern lenses allow plenty of oxygen to the front of your eyes, thus minimizing eye problems and increasing comfort.
Please bring your current lenses and prescription details with you at the time of the appointment.
Contact lens fitting charges vary from 45 to 65 pounds, depending on the type of lens needed.
Contact lens check ups are charged at our normal appointment charge of 20 pounds.
We supply contact lenses at internet cost, I use the Tesco website for most of our prices.
If you can find your lens type for even less than Tesco, please bring a printout of the price including postage with you at the time of the appointment.
Cataract screening:

Cataracts at first produce a slight blur in the vision.
With time this blurring increases and eventually the cataract may have to be treated.
Cataracts are sometimes caused by Ultra Violet light.
So just like you need to protect your skin from sunlight,
you need to ensure your eyes are protected too.
The picture on the left shows a mature cataract ready for treatment.
Glaucoma screening:

Glaucoma is an eye complaint related to the pressure in the eye.
The pressure is checked with a gently puff of air using a tonometer. The back of the eye is examined with an Ophthalmoscope.
The area of critical importance is the optic disc, where the nerve enters the eye.
If the area shown in yellow is too large the eye may suffer from glaucoma.
