Nidek Fundus Camera System
I have invested in a high-tech Nidek non-mydriatic fundus camera to produce detailed images of the retina so that any potential problems can be detected as early as possible.
The fundus camera takes a photographic image of the retina so we can see the optic nerve head, blood vessels, macula etc. and detect the early signs of things like glaucoma, diabetes and high blood pressure.
On rare occasions we can detect things that are more serious,
even life-threatening.
Eye drops are not usually needed to capture images using the high quality camera.
The fundus camera is a wonderful tool for both optician and customer as it produces instant images to immediately check the health of your eye.

When the image is captured it immediately appears on a wide screen monitor, for the customer and optician to see, and is automatically stored.
With excellent images using 30° field angles the outstanding image quality of the Nidek Retinal Camera makes it the perfect solution for cases that require in-depth study.
The Topcon Retinal Camera is designed for both routine clinical use and screening.
It integrates all aspects of clinical retinal photography – from image capture to documentation – in a single, state-of-the-art system featuring all hardware and software.

Modern range of spectacle lenses:

Both varifocal and bifocal lenses are now available in light weight impact resistant plastic called Trilogy.
This material can have an antireflection coating added for night driving.
These coatings are now much easier to keep clean e.g. Crizal Scotchguard.
Polarised lenses are especially useful for driving when the sun is low in the sky, available in brown and grey.
Thinner lenses are available to reduce the thickness of all lenses, the choice in these lenses has recently been greatly enhanced, we’re happy to help.
Contact Lenses:
I fit both soft and gas permeable contact lenses to most prescriptions.
Well fitted and good quality modern lenses allow plenty of oxygen to the front of your eyes, thus minimizing eye problems and increasing comfort.
Please bring your current lenses and prescription details with you at the time of the appointment.
Contact lens fitting charges vary from 45 to 65 pounds, depending on the type of lens needed.
Contact lens check ups are charged at our normal appointment charge of 20 pounds.
Cataract screening:

Cataracts at first produce a slight blur in the vision.
With time this blurring increases and eventually the cataract may have to be treated.
Cataracts are sometimes caused by Ultra Violet light.
So just like you need to protect your skin from sunlight,
you need to ensure your eyes are protected too.
The picture on the left shows a mature cataract ready for treatment.
Glaucoma screening:

Glaucoma is an eye complaint related to the pressure in the eye.
The pressure is checked with a gently puff of air using a tonometer.
The back of the eye is examined with an Ophthalmoscope.
The area of critical importance is the optic disc, where the nerve enters the eye.
If the area shown in yellow is too large the eye may suffer from glaucoma.
